I’ve surprised myself as to how long I have gone without automating (or smartifying) my home.  I love the concept of the connected and automated home…..it’s so Jetsons and so Star Trek.  But it’s all been too hard so far – too many different ecosystems and protocols (SmartThings, Apple, Zigbee, etc). I both couldn’t be bothered and couldn’t afford to buy into one of these or try to stitch several together to make them inter-operable.  At one point I bought into a Kickstarter of a home automation and connection kit inter-operable with several – it never materialised.

Finally I’m excited……Google is bringing out Google Home.  Not only is it beautiful looking, but (as Goolge does) it will united the various systems and make them all work together.  And it doesn’t hurt that I/we are already bought into the Google ecosystem (gmail, apps, drive, photos, hangouts, etc).

Cannot wait.
